CATHLEEN O'DONNELL VICTIMS' MEMORIAL RIBBON
The idea for the "Victims' Memorial Ribbon" was first conceived in March 1987 by Betty O'Donnell mother of Victim, Cathleen O'Donnell a twenty-five year old murder victim, lost her life to violence on March 11,1986
The purpose of the Memorial Ribbon was to provide expression of the grief of the families and friends of those who have lost their lives by murder. It also expresses the outrage of the survivors at the violence of murder.

The color black was chosen as the traditional color of mourning. The color red was added to symbolize both the feeling of outrage and the violence of the act of murder. The design is based on an interpretation of the symbols for life, death and infinity.
